Proper preparation is key to a successful and meaningful Hajj experience. 

  • Learn about the rituals and their significance
  • Seek forgiveness from Allah and from people
  • Make sincere repentance (Tawbah)
  • Increase in prayers and remembrance of Allah
  • Read books about Hajj and its history
  • Practice patience and humility
  • Get a complete medical checkup
  • Obtain required vaccinations
  • Start walking exercise 2-3 months before
  • Eat healthy and maintain good fitness
  • Practice walking long distances
  • Get comfortable walking shoes
  • Valid passport with 6+ months validity
  • Hajj visa from Saudi Arabia
  • Vaccination certificates (required)
  • Travel insurance documentation
  • Mahram certificate (for women)

Day-by-Day Hajj Rituals

Follow this detailed timeline to perform all Hajj rituals correctly.  

  • Enter state of Ihram if coming from Makkah
  • Pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha in Mina
  • Engage in dhikr and dua
  • Travel to Mina after Fajr prayer
  • Stay overnight in Mina
  • Leave Mina for Arafat after Fajr
  • Combine and shorten Dhuhr and Asr prayers
  • Leave for Muzdalifah after sunset
  • Stay within the boundaries of Arafat
  • Engage in continuous supplication until sunset
  • Collect pebbles at Muzdalifah
  • Stone the largest pillar (Jamrat al-Aqaba)
  • Shave or trim hair
  • Return to Mina
  • Offer sacrifice (Qurbani)
  • Perform Tawaf al-Ifadah
  • Stay in Mina for 2-3 days
  • Stone after Dhuhr prayer
  • Prepare for departure
  • Stone all three pillars each day
  • Continue with dhikr and dua
